How it all began

Call It a Cliche

Amber and David met at church. Became friends while volunteering as musicians.
Started dating after catching feelings during a conference weekend.

What Are You Doing

Friday Night?

David was living in New Jersey and working at Al Jazeera in New York, while Amber was commuting back and forth between grad school in New York and her research fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

One day, David called to ask Amber about her weekend plans. “I’ll be in Boston,” she replied. He asked again, “so what are you doing this weekend?” Amber grew frustrated as she repeated, “I’ll be in Boston.” Always tenacious, David gave it one more shot. “What are you doing this weekend? Because I’d like to take you on a date.”

David took the train to Boston and planned the perfect first date. Dinner at Myers and Chang.
A charming walk through Back Bay. A peanut butter milkshake to share.

Long-Distance Love

Though there have been a few months where Amber and David have been fortunate enough to live in the same city at the same time, most of their relationship has been long distance.
First, Amber had a fellowship in Massachusetts. Then, David signed a major label record deal and spent his first summer on the road. Amber moved back to NYC.
David did an international tour. Amber finished her Ph.D. and landed a job in Massachusetts. David played the festival circuit (ask him for the wild story about Coachella).
Amber moved to Maryland. That’s where it gets good.

I Didn’t Hear You Say It!

David proposed to Amber in Maryland, where she grew up. As they walked around the gardens at Rawling’s Conservatory in Baltimore, David drew Amber to a quiet spot surrounded by lush trees and sunshine, and asked her to marry him.

David knelt, ring in hand, patiently waiting for her response.

“Well?” He asked, still waiting.

Amber was confused. “You didn’t ask me yet,” she replied.

(But he had asked. She didn’t hear the question because it was muffled by David’s face mask!)

They laughed as Amber explained, “I didn’t hear you say it! Yes!”

That day, friends and family hosted a small gathering at Suspended Brewery to mark the occasion,
complete with the couple’s favorite Filipino food from Heritage Kitchen.

And Now, The Celebration Continues…
